Annual “Dirty Dozen” Report
The “Dirty Dozen” List
The “Dirty Dozen” report from the Environmental Working Group lists the fruits and vegetables with the highest pesticide residues, including strawberries, spinach, and kale. While the levels are generally considered safe, (by what possible standards?!) long-term exposure to pesticides may be linked to health problems. Washing produce thoroughly and considering organic options can help minimize our exposure.
- Strawberries
- Spinach
- Kale, collard and mustard greens
- Nectarines
- Apples
- Grapes
- Cherries
- Peaches
- Pears
- Bell peppers
- Celery
- Tomatoes
Long-term exposure to pesticides may be linked to health problems, so it’s generally recommended to purchase organic produce if possible!
